The Awami League-led ruling alliance yesterday (Tuesday) alleged that Pakistan and some other countries are conspiring to destabilise the Sheikh Hasina government. “We must remain united to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, so that the countries involved realise that the people of Bangladesh are with her,” said AL presidium member Mohammad Nasim. Nasim, who is also the health minister, called upon the people, as well as leaders and workers of the AL-led 14-party alliance, to take part in the February 15 human chain programme to make it a grand success. He was addressing a preparatory meeting for the programme at the AL headquarters at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city. Referring to the summoning of the Bangladesh High Commissioner in Islamabad, Sohrab Hosain, by the Pakistan foreign ministry on Monday, Nasim said Pakistan is crossing the limit. “If they don’t stop being so audacious, we will think whether we will continue our relationship with them or not in future,” he said. He also lambasted Khaleda Zia for making a statement echoing Pakistan that three million people were not martyred during the 1971 Liberation War. Khaleda Zia should apologise to the nation for making such a remark, he added. The ruling alliance will organise the human chain at 14 points in the capital, in protest against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s statement over martyrs and Pakistan’s conspiracy.
