Three sent to jail for injuring nurse

A court in Barisal on Wednesday noon sent three young men to jail for injuring a nurse     during vandalism at She-E- Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) on Tuesday over a patient’s death due to alleged negligence in treatment. The jailed three young men were Imran of Dapdapia area and Rubel and Antar of KDC area of the city. They were produced before the court under section 54 on Wednesday noon after Dr Kamrul Hasan Selim, director of the hospital, lodged a general diary in this connection , said Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station officer-in-charge. Md. Ali Hussain, chief metropolitan magistrate of Barisal, rejecting the bail prayer of the arrestees on Wednesday afternoon ordered to send them to jail, police and court sources said. According to family sources of the deceased, Liton of KDC area of the city had been brought to the emergency ward of the hospital on Tuesday evening on suspicion of having suffered brain homerage. However, when the patient was taken to the medicine ward after 40 minutes, attending doctor declared him dead.
Then attendants of the patient getting agitated attacked Mustafizur Rahman, senior staff nurse on duty at the emergency ward, blaming him for delay in admission and treatment causing the death. The attendants of the patient also clashed with other staff of the hospital. They alleged that senior staff nurse Mustafiz demanded bribe to take admission of the patient and give him treatment causing his death. Hearing the incident, local ward councilor Zainul Abedin and hospital staff stopped performing duty.
Police rushed to the spot and detaining aforesaid three youth men controlled the situation. The hospital staff resumed duty after one hour on Tuesday night as Dr Kamrul Hasan Selim, director of the hospital, assured them of taking legal actions against the attackers and ensuring safety and security of the staff.
