Abducted boy’s body recovered; 3 held
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered the body of a minor boy, who had been abducted on Tuesday, from at Nawabganj in the capital yesterday. The victim was identified as Rifat Hossain, 6, son of Abdur Rafiq, a resident of Hossain Uddin Khan Lane at Lalbagh in the capital. Talking to The Independent, Assistant Police Superintend Khairul Alam of RAB-10 said the Rifat was abducted around 3pm on Tuesday and later, his family members lodged a general diary with Lalbagh Police Station in this connection. They also lodged a written complaint to the RAB. According to the complaint, RAB started investigation into the matter. Later, RAB tracking a mobile number conducted a drive at Azimpur Government Quarters on Wednesday night arrested Rifat’s neighbour Arifur Rahman Jewel, his father Habib and Jewel’s friend Iqbal. During their primary interrogation, they admitted that they kidnapped Rifat for ransom. Failing to realise the ransom, the kidnappers killed the boy and dumped the body beside the Buriganga River. ASP Khairul said they recovered the body from a plastic bag beside the river. The arrestees were handed over to the police. Inspector Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Lalbagh police station, said the body was sent to the Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Filing a case was under process, he added.
