Roads Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday that the government is contemplating enactment of two laws to limit the plying of vehicles with a view to easing the prevailing traffic tailback in the capital city, reports BSS. “With the proposal of fixing a limit upon use of cars by each family, two separate laws will be enacted instead of the existing ‘Motor Vehicles Ordinance -1983,” he said while replying to a query of independent lawmaker Hazi Mohammad Salim in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. Replying to supplementary question of Salim, the minister said the government did not take any decision yet that each family would be eligible to use a private car. “But instead of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance -1983, the draft for two separate laws-Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Kortripakhha Aine (Bangladesh Roads Transport Authority Law) - 2015 and Road Transport Law-2015 are in progress,” he added. Quader said the plying of 20-year old bus-minibuses and 25-year old goods-carrying vehicles in Dhaka city is strictly prohibited to ease traffic congestion and ensure safety of road (nirapod sarak).
