Security of cobbler
community demanded

Leaders of the local unit of Bangladesh Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad and Puja Udjapan Parishad yesterday demanded security of the members of cobbler community at Parala village in Monirampur upazila following a recent attack on them. The plea came from a press conference at Jessore Press Club. Dipankar Das Ratan, general secretary of Puja Udjapan Parishad, Jessore, read out a written statement at the press conference. The leaders said at least 15 people were wounded and a number of houses set on fire on Saturday after Bangladesh Chhatra League activists attacked a cobbler village in Monirampur upazila. Police said the BCL men swooped on the village in retaliation after they were accused of stalking the girls of the community. Three of the accused were arrested on Sunday, said Shafin Mahmud, assistant superintendent of police, Jessore.
