DHAKA: As the world is getting smaller with unprecedented advancement of information technology, renowned education experts yesterday laid emphasis on internationalization of higher education to flourish talent and potential of students for creating global citizens, reports BSS. Without promoting internationalization at universities, standard of higher education will not be improved, they said at a workshop on ”International of Higher Education” in a city hotel.
American International University -Bangladesh (AIUB) and Daffodil International University (DIU) in cooperation with International Association of Universities (IAU) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) organized the workshop. Member of University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Head of Quality Assurance Unit of UGC Prof Dr Meshbahuddin Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of AIUB Dr Carmen Z Lamagna and DIU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Yousuf Mahbubul Islam and Pro Vice Chancellor of AIUB Prof Dr Charles C. Villanueva, among others, addressed the workshop. Senior Assistant Professor of Faculty of Business Administration of AIUB Farheen Hassan conducted the workshop.
IAU Secretary General Eva Egron-Polak, IAU Board Member Dr Anna Ciccarelli and Quality Assurance Expert Prof Dr SM Kabir made three separate presentations titled “Global perspective on internationalization”, “Adapting Internationalization Stretegies in different contexts” and “The regional perspective on internationalization and their impact on Bangladesh” respectively at the workshop. Prof Yousuf said internationalization of higher education is of enormous importance for developing countries like Bangladesh as this practice will contribute to qualitative improvement of tertiary education. He described internationalization as “golden opportunity for us” because it will create a wonderful scope for sharing knowledge and research works with leading universities in foreign countries.
