BB governor lauds green banking 
initiatives

RAJSHAHI: Governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) Dr Atiur Rahman yesterday said the central bank has introduced green banking in the country for the first time to save the nature and environment, reports BSS. Besides, he said, the bank has adopted various other social responsibility related schemes like CSR, agent banking and students banking for public interests. He made the observation while addressing a seminar titled “Word of Life, Word of Economy” organised by the Rajshahi University Readers Forum at its premises, as the chief guest.
Ru vice chancellor Prof Mijanuddin, Pro-vice chancellor Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Prof Hassan Azizul Haque and founder of the forum Arif Hasnat also spoke. President of the forum Nasir Uddin chaired the meeting. Dr Atiur said Bangladesh Bank has been transformed into a complete digital institution as part of the present government’s dream of building digital Bangladesh. Banking system of the country was also digitalised. He mentioned that the policy of the central bank is being adjudged as the instance in the global arena. Referring to various economic successes in the country the governor said per capital income, remittances and foreign currency reserves went up. Social development, employment, poverty reduction and life span of the people are significantly visible in the development indicators.
He categorically said Bangladesh has attained significant success in economic growth compared to many other countries during the last couple of years. He added that Bangladesh will be the role model in terms of economic development in the world.
