Police yet to file case against ‘rogue’ SI

The police are yet to accept any case over the alleged torture on Bangladesh Bank official Golam Rabbi by Sub Inspector Masud Sikder. Officer-in-Charge Zamal Uddin Mir refrained from filing any case against Masud when Rabbi’s friend Zahidur Rahman, along with two lawyers, went to Mohammadpur Police Station around 3pm yesterday to sue the ‘rogue’ police official.  The OC said he could not record the case until the High Court issues a written order in this regard.
Contacted over the police denial to record the case, Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Division) of DMP Biplab Kumar Sarker echoed the Mohammadpur OC. The law enforcers would take necessary action against Masud only after they receive the copy of the court order, Sarker said. Golam Rabbi, an assistant director at the central bank, was allegedly picked-up by a police team led by SI Masud and tortured in a bid to extort money from him on the night of January 9 in Mohammadpur area.  Masud had allegedly demanded Tk 5 lakh from Rabbi and threatened the banker that he will be implicated in a drugs-related case if he fails to pay the amount.
