Navy, Air chiefs adorned new rank badges

Chiefs of the Bangladesh Navy (BN) and the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF), whose ranks have been upgraded, were adorned their new rank badges at a function held at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) yesterday. The post of chief of BN has been upgraded to the rank of Admiral from the existing rank of Vice Admiral, while the post of chief of BAF has been upgraded to Air Chief Marshal from the existing Air Martial, through a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Defense yesterday. In presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister's Security Affairs Adviser Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique and acting Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Anwar Hussain adorned the badges at the rank badge adorning ceremony held at the PMO.
Following the upgrading, the ranks of the chiefs of the BN and the BAF have become equal to the rank of the Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army. The government has upgraded the ranks of the BN and the BAF for better coordination between operational, administrative and command wings among the armed forces with a view to implementing the forces' goal 2030. Following a directive from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who also heads the Defence Ministry, the government has provided equal status to chiefs of Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force. The PM had consented to the proposal of upgrading posts of chiefs of BN and BAF on September 22 last year.
