Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has told a UN session that the government has taken a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against extremism in Bangladesh, according to a press release, issued by the permanent mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations (UN) yesterday. “We have already involved our women, civil society, religious leaders, people at grassroots and the media to fight terrorism and violence,” he said this while speaking at a session of United Nations (UN), held at the UN headquarters in New York yesterday. The UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-moon presented a ‘plan of action’ against extremism and terrorism in the session and the home minister reassured the UN that Bangladesh has a strong commitment in the global fight against extremism and terrorism in the regional and international levels. Representatives from 193 member countries took part in the session, said the release. The UN plan of action came three months after the global leaders including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined a conference on "Countering Violent Extremism" (CVE) on the UN General Assembly (UNGA) sidelines, the press release added.
