Workshop for physiotherapists held at AIUB
The Masters in Public Health (MPH) programme of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organised a day-long workshop and seminar for physiotherapists on ‘Musculoskeletal Disorders in the Workplace Including Low Back Pain – Prevention and Treatment’. The programme was held at the AIUB auditorium in the capital yesterday, says a press release. The day long event comprised of a workshop carried out by chief speaker Dr Valerie Ann Taylor, veteran physiotherapist, founder and coordinator of Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), and a seminar focusing on the career prospects of physiotherapists in public health, interactive sessions among focus groups and quiz competition.
Seminar topics included ‘How to Develop Skills for Physiotherapist’ and ‘MPH in building up a good Physiotherapy Career’. A study report presented in the programme, shows that nearly 95 per cent of working people at the work place in Bangladesh are suffering from Musculoskeletal Syndrome and low back pain while 56 per cent of total world populations also suffering from the same. Among female caregiver and housewives in Bangladesh, there are 67% of them suffering from low back pain. A quiz competition was also held followed by the closing ceremony, certificate and prize distribution. The Independent was one of the media partners of the daylong event.
NSU Earth Club wins ‘Save the Nature’ award
The Earth Club of North South University (NSU) won the ‘Save the Nature’ award for their extraordinary contribution in raising environmental awareness under the institutional category. Prokriti O Jibon Foundation organised an award ceremony ‘Fresh Channel i Prokriti Mela 2016’ recently on Channel i premises. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Annisul Huq, along with other renowned professionals was present at the ceremony. The crest was awarded to NSU Earth Club by Muqit Majumder Babu, chairman, Prokriti O Jibon Foundation and Director of Channel i. GU Ahsan, dean, School of Health and Life Sciences, NSU and Tamanna Ahmed, President, Earth Club, NSU received the Award. Md Jakariya, chairman, the Department of Environmental Science and Management and Tahmid Huq Easher, Faculty Advisor, NSU Earth Club, were also present in the ceremony. On January 11, 2016 the winning team handed over the crest to Gour Gobinda Goswami, vice-chancellor in charge, NSU in a post celebration ceremony at NSU that was organized on the succession of winner team.
