A mobile court of Chittagong City Corporation and Chittagong district administration in drives pulled down 12 illegal billboards from different parts of the city from Thursday night to early yesterday. The evection drive was led by five executive magistrates --Mohammad Ruhul Amin and Tamim Al Yeamin, executive magistrate of Chittagong district administration, Nazia Shirin, executive magistrate of CCC, Hasnat Murshed and Afzal Hossain, assistant commissioner of land Agrabad and Chandgaon respectively.
As a part of building a green and clean Chittagong city, the drive was conducted and the billboards were cracked down, said the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), sources. Nazia Shirin, executive magistrate of CCC, said a total of 12 large and small illegal billboards were pulled down from different areas of the city which were erected hiding Chittagong skyline. This joint operation will be continued in future, she added. Mohammad Ruhul Amin, executive magistrate of Chittagong District Administration, said they conducted the drive at GEC Circle, Muradpur-Oxygen, Tiger pass, Barik building areas and the billboards were pulled down. The drive began at 9 pm in presence of high officials from CCC and district administrations and ended around 4 am yesterday. Contacted, Farid Mahmud, president of Chittagong Outdoor Advertising Owners' Association, said “CCC authorities held a meeting with us few days ago and a decision had been taken to form a committee with their five members, to evict illegal billboards. “But without informing us the authorities began the drive” he added. He alleged that some legal billboards were also demolished with illegal one during the drive.
