Roquaiya Hasina performs at IGCC today

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) is organising an evening of Rabindra Sangeet by Roquaiya Hasina Neely at the IGCC’s Gulshan premises tomorrow.   Roquaiya Hasina is a renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer in Bangladesh, who won the hearts of many connoisseurs. She is also an accomplished presenter of the songs of Atul Prasad, Dwijendra Lal Roy, Rajani Kanta and many others. Drawing inspiration from her father, Late Professor Rashidul Hasan, who was a martyr in the Bangladesh Liberation War, Neely trained under the revered music composer and director, Abdul Ahad, Dr. Sanjida Khatoon, Wahidul Haque and Ajit Roy to accomplish her talents. She completed her five year music course from Chhayanaut. She is also a post graduate in Sociology from Dhaka University.    
Neely started singing in Bangladesh Betar and BTV as an artiste in 1976. She had been a teacher at the Chhayanat and Sarkari Sangeet Mohabidhaylay, Agargao, Dhaka. She is now director and music trainer of musical organisation Abbhudoy, founded by renowned music director and Tagore singer late Ajit Roy and also an executive member of National Rabindra Sangeet Parishad. One of Neely’s memorable performances was as a solo artiste in New York in a function commemorating the 75th anniversary of the award of Nobel Prize to Tagore. She also sang Rabindra Sangeet in Bango Shammelon in New Jersey in 1988. Voice of America broadcasted her interview in 1989. She received the Citycell-Channel i Music Award 2008 for being the best Rabindra Sangeet performer. Shadhinata Academy Foundation, Bangladesh, awarded Sammanana 2014 for her contribution to Rabindra Sangeet. She also performed in many countries over the years in USA, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany and India.
