26 houses gutted in Rangamati, Bagerhat

A total of 26 dwelling houses were gutted by fire in Rangamati and Bagerhat districts on Wednesday. In Rangamati, at least 20 dwelling houses were gutted in a devastating fire near Technical Training Centre (TTC) in the town on Wednesday night, reports BSS. Additional director of Rangamati Fire Services and Civil Defense Golam Mostafa said the fire might have been originated from gas stove of a house and soon engulfed the adjacent houses. Fire fighters from Rangamati rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after one hour frantic effort. No actual financial losses were so far known although the victims claimed that the loss may surpass Tk one crore. In Bagerhat, six dwelling houses were gutted in a fire in municipal area of the district on Wednesday, reports BSS. Sources said being informed a unit of fire fighters rushed to the spot near old railway station and extinguished the blaze after one hour of hectic effort, at about 4am. Station officer of Bagerhat fire service and civil defense M Joynul Abedin suspected that the fire might have originated from electric short circuit.
