Trophy of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 reached Bangladesh yesterday as part of its global journey- ‘Nissan Trophy Tour’- ending its trip to Europe and Africa. Amid tight security, the trophy was brought to the Dhanmondi office of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, where Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon had a photo session with it around 3pm. The prestigious silverware was later taken to Bashundhara City shopping mall at Panthapath around 4:30pm for public display. Although the trophy reached the venue for public display after a delay of two and a half hours, there was no lack in the spectators’ zeal to have a look of the coveted T20 prize. The trophy will be on display from 10am to 3pm at the same venue today, before heading to Sri Lanka for two days. The trophy will reach Wellington on Jan 21 and will then head to Australia on Jan 26 where it will be displayed in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney until 31 January. From Sydney, the trophy will return to New Delhi on February 1 and will then start its domestic tour by making appearances at each of the venues that will host the 2016 ICC World Twenty20, India, matches.
