CU monsoon, Eid vacation begins June 16

CHITTAGONG: Chittagong University (CU) will go for a 45-day vacation on the occasion of monsoon and Eid-ul-Fitr from June 16 next.
A press release signed by CU Registrar (information) Mohammad Farhad Hossain Khan said yesterday the academic activities of the university would remain closed till July 30.
However, pre-scheduled examinations will be held and all administrative activities will run during the vacation, the press release added.

Preparatory meeting on DU Day

A preparatory meeting of Dhaka University (DU) Day Celebration Committee was held at the senate Bhaban on Monday to celebrate the 94th founding anniversary of the university on July 1. Convener of the committee and DU treasurer Kamal Uddin chaired the meeting while members of senate and syndicate, DU Teachers' Association president, deans, provosts, departmental chairmen, representative of different association were also present at the meeting.
Marking the day, daylong programme will be organised which will feature hoisting of university and hall flags in the morning, assemblage at Mall Chattar at 10 am to bring out procession on the campus at 10.30 am. A discussion will be held at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) at 11 am. Besides, different faculties, departments, institutes and dormitories will arrange own programmes. Marking the day, a souvenir will be published.
All classes and examinations will remain close on the day. But offices will remain open.

Seminar held marking environment day

The Department of Applied Sociology of ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) organised a seminar titled ‘One Planet, Common Dream’ yesterday marking the World Environment Day, says a press release.
Dalem Ch Barman, vice-chancellor of ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB), was the chief guest. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, chairman of Dhaka School of Economics and Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) was the distinguished speaker of the ceremony.
M Inamul Haque, chairman, Jal O Poribesh Institute and former director general, Haor Development Board, spoke on water and environment in Bangladesh. Dr. Ahmad in his speech talked about various difficulties associated with climate negotiations and new ways of poverty reduction. Abu Daud Hasan, dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Science, ASAUB, presided over the programme.
Md Muinuddin Khan, adviser of ASAUB, discussed on the present environment situation of Bangladesh. S Aminul Islam, chairman, Department of Applied Sociology, delivered the welcome address in the seminar.  Deans and chairmen from different faculties and departments, teachers, administrators and students from the Department of Applied Sociology participated in the programme.
