Director Rubaiyat Hossain’s second feature film titled ‘Under Construction’, which features two Indian actors besides local artistes, is going to release in the country’s cinema halls on January 22. Earlier in June last year, the film had its world premiere in Seattle Film Festival in North America. Then, the film participated in a few more international festivals. Besides, the film won Golden Durian Prize for best Asian Films at SalaMindanaw International Film Festival in Philippine.
The film is about a woman struggling to find herself in the sprawl of urban Bangladesh. The story of the film ‘Under Construction’ shows that in order to find herself, actress Roya reconstructs a famous and politically minded play for modern times, reclaiming her identity and sexuality in the process. The film casts Shahana Goswami, Rikita Nandini, Mita Rahman and Rahul Bose, among others.
‘Under Construction’ is the second film from director Rubaiyat Hossain, who made his directorial debut with the film ‘Meherjan’ and earned the attention of the viewers. Celebrated Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan acted in the Rubaiyat’s first film. To note, earlier the film was screened at the Montreal International Film Festival (MIFF) in Canada, and ‘Festival De Cine Bogata’ in Colombia last year.
