Criminal killed in 'gunfight'
A criminal was killed in a gunfight with police at Balaishpur in Laxmipur sadar upazila on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Moslehuddin alias Jasim, 31, chief of Jasim Bahini. Assistant Police Superintendent of Sadar circle Junayed Kawser said acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive at Balaishpur around 9:45pm. Sensing presence of police, members of Jasim Bahini opened fire at law enforcers forcing them to fire back. Jasim and his three associates -- Belgium Sumon, Delwar Hossain and Kala Shahadad -- received bullet wounds during the gunfight. The injured were admitted to Laxmipur sadar hospital, where duty doctor declared Jasim dead. Police recovered one light gun, one foreign pistol and six rounds of bullet from the possession of the criminals. Jasim was wanted in 18 cases filed against him with Sadar and Chandraganj police station, the ASP said. Seven policemen were also hurt during the gunfight, he said. On the other hand, Jasim’s father Shahidullah claimed that law enforcers picked up his son from his house at about 6pm and at 9pm police informed him about the news of his death.
