Barisal City Corporation Panel Mayor and BNP leader Alhajj KM Shahidullah was detained from his house in the city by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday. Sources said members of RAB-8 picked him up from his house in Alekanda area behind Barisal Medical College at about 3pm and took him to the RAB camp in Rupatoli. At about 10pm, he was again taken to his residence and a RAB team conducted a search there, RAB-8 second in command Major Adnan told reporters. The panel mayor was detained as he is suspected of being involved in subversive activities, said the RAB official. “The panel mayor will be handed over to police tonight (Tuesday night),” he added. KM Shahidullah is also the president of Jatiyatabadi Swecchasebak Dal, Barisal district unit. Till filing of this report today at 1am, the process was underway to file a case against the panel mayor.
