Rabibdra Sangeet singer Laisa Ahmed Lisa, along with esraj artiste Ashok Kumar Sarkar will perform at a musical programme titled ‘Praner Khela’ today at Bengal Shilpalaya in the city’s Dhanmondi area. Organised by Bengal Foundation, Laisa Ahmed Lisa will render Tagore songs, while Ashok Kumar Sarkar will play ragas on his esraj at the programme. Born in a family of musicians, Lisa was initiated to music by her father, late Dr. Mafiz Uddin Ahmed. Subsequently, she received training in Rabindra Sangeet from Professor Ghulam Murshid, Waheedul Haq and Sanjida Khatun. Ustad Amaresh Roy Chowdhury and Ustad Rabiul Hussain had been Lisa’s mentors in Hindustani classical vocal music.
By profession, Lisa is a Biochemist and Molecular Biologist, but has been associated with music over the decades. She is a teacher of Rabindra Sangeet at Chhayanaut, member of Anandadhwani and Central Committee of Jatiya Rabindrasangeet Sammilan Parishad. Lisa has several popular musical albums to her credit and has been the proud recipient of the Citycell Channel i Music Award 2007 for being the Best Singer of Rabindra Sangeet. She has also travelled for performances to India, USA, UK and Germany.
