Fake army man held
JESSORE: Police arrested a fake member of army from Shalta Bazar in Sarsha upazila of Jessore district on Monday night, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Shamim Hossain, 20, a resident of Shalta village.
Officer-in-charge of Sarsha police station Maniruzzaman said Shamim used to work as a domestic help at the house of an army officer in the capital.
One week ago, he stole a set of army dress from the house, quit the job and returned to his village.
On Monday night, he came to Shalta Bazar wearing the dress and tried to establish dominance in the area.
However, local people informed the matter to police seeing Shamim’s suspicious gesture.
Later, police arrested him after interrogation.
A case was also filed against Shameem with Sarsha police station in this connection.

Missing girl found dead

Police recovered the body of a teenage girl from a bamboo bush at Singher Kajura village in Manirampur upazila of Jessore district on Monday evening, three days after she had reportedly gone missing.
The deceased was identified as Lima Khatun, 14, daughter of Shahidul Islam. She was a ninth grader of Nengurahat Mahila Madrasha.
Family sources of Lima said she had gone missing on Friday evening.
Following this, her father filed a general dairy with Manirampur police station.
On Monday evening, locals spotted the body hanging from a tree in a bamboo bush and informed police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Officer-in-charge of Manirampur police station Taherul Islam.

Juba League activist injured

A Juba League activist was attacked and injured by some unidentified criminals in Jhenidah town on Monday night.
The injured was identified as Rana, 35, of Kanchanpur village in sadar upazila of the district.
Officer-in-Charge of sadar police station Hasan Hafizur Rahman said the member of the ruling party Awami League's youth wing was attacked by five to six criminals at about 8 pm when he was going to Hamdoho area. They hacked him with machetes leaving him seriously injured.
Local people rushed him to sadar hospital; but the duty doctor referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital when his physical condition deteriorated.
 
15 injured in clash over land
Sumanganj: At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a land-related dispute at Atghar village in Jagannathpur upazila on Monday evening, reports UNB.
Police said the incident took place at the house of one Faruk Miah during an arbitration meeting.
The villagers arranged the meeting to settle the land  dispute between Jilu Miah and Faruk Miah, residents of the village.
At one stage, supporters of both the groups locked in a clash with local weapons following an altercation, leaving at least 15 people injured.
Seriously injured Lal Miah, 45, and Ana Miah, 42, were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Officer-in-charge of Jagannathpur police station M Mursalin confirmed the incident.
7 shops, 5 jute godowns gutted
CHANDPUR: At least seven shops and five jute godowns were gutted in a fire at Hajiganj bazaar of the district yesterday night, reports BSS.
The fire originated from a jute godown at about 8 pm and soon engulfed the other adjacent
shops, said officer-in-charge of Hajiganj police station M Shah Alam. Being informed, three units of fire fighters from Hajiganj, Shahrasti and Kachua
upazilas reached the spot and doused the blaze after two hours hectic efforts with the help of the locals, the OC said.
