RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a certificate distribution ceremony yesterday observed that the trained imams have a vital role to play for freeing the society from social and moral degradation especially terrorism and violence against women, reports BSS. They said the imams can influence the society so they should come forward to free society from social and moral degradation. They were speaking in the certificate giving and closing session of a regular training course of the 848th batch of Imam Training Academy at its conference hall. Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Sultan Abdul Hamid said the society at present is infested with various destructiveness, crimes, misconceptions and anomalies due to lack of proper knowledge on moral and religious values. The trained imams should do something against the crimes as part of their social responsibility. He also urged the attending imams to disseminate their updated knowledge acquired from the training course among the community people as the present government is committed to build a happy and prosperous society. Social Science Instructor (Livestock and Fish Culture) of the academy Murshidul Islam also spoke on the occasion giving an overview of the course and its ultimate goals. They told the meeting that the academy has been extending computer literacy training among the youths besides training imams on various income-generation and social issues. Later, the guests distributed certificates among 95 imams of the training course coming from nine districts under Rajshahi and two districts under Khulna divisions. Director of Islamic Foundation Mahbub Alam addressed the session as the chief and special guests respectively with Deputy Director of the academy Monirul Haque in the chair. Former Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation Abdus Shakur and Trainer Mukhlesur Rahman also spoke.
