Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday reminded the country’s private universities of fulfilling the conditions earlier set by the government, reports UNB. “Some private universities haven’t yet fulfilled the minimum conditions. These private universities can’t run any more this way,” he said. The Education Minister was addressing the fourth convocation of the Utara University at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.
As per the Private University Act 2010, Nahid said, the private universities must set up modern libraries and research centres to provide research-oriented and pragmatic education to students. There should not be any difference between the students of public and private universities, he said adding that the government is committed to ensuring the quality of education for all as students are the country’s future. Nahid urged the private university authorities to reduce tuition frees and other educational expenses considering the reality and socioeconomic state of the country’s people. Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan, vice chancellor of Utara University Prof M Azizur Rahman and chairman of the university trustee board Badrul Iqbal, among others, spoke on the occasion.
