Police detained a woman and her second husband for their alleged involvement with the killing of their son in Mirpur of the city. The victim was identified as Rafiqul Islam Rana, 16. According to the police sources, Rana, a schoolboy, died while under going treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital on Monday night. The detainees were identified as Selina Begum, victim’s mother and Abdus Salam, his step father. On January 2, Rana came to the Dhaka to see her mother. But his step father became angry seeing him at his residence in Mirpur. Later Selina and Salam started quarrel and at one stage, Salam beat Selina and forced her to leave the residence. Sources said Salam forcibly gave Rana poisons and informed Selina that her son took poisons at night. Getting information, Selina brought her son to the hospital in a critical condition. But the on-duty doctor declared Rana dead. As Emran Hossain, maternal uncle of the deceased alleged that Salam in association with Selina killed Rana by poisoning, police detained them.
