Anjan’s, one of the leading fashion houses in the city, has organised a 15-day Jamdani exhibition titled ‘Jamdani Bipanan Pradarshani’ at its outlets in Dhaka and Chittagong. Eminent artist Hashem Khan along with researcher Hamida Hossain, fashion designer Chandra Shekhar Saha inaugurated the exhibition on Saturday at its Banani outlet. The ongoing exhibition is displaying Jamdani Saree in different designs. Besides, using Jamdani motifs and different fabrics, Anjan’s jewelleries, home textiles, panjabi, salwar kamiz and many more have been showcased at the exhibition. Hashem Khan said, “For the Bangladeshi culture, Jamdani is a unique asset. The traditional beauty of Jamdani has been extolled not only in the country, but also across the globe. So, we have to uphold the tradition.” Anjan’s chief executive Shahin Ahmmed said, “Jamdani is losing its originality in some aspects. Besides, the weavers of Jamdani do not get proper honorarium. By arranging such an exhibition, we want to highlight the nobility of Jamdani and motivate the weavers.” To note, Jamdani is a hand loom woven fabric made of cotton, which historically was referred to as muslin. Jamdani weaving tradition is of Bengali origin. Beginning on January 2, the exhibition will continue till January 16 at Anjan’s Banani, Baily Road, Jamuna Future Park outlets and Chittagong JEC intersection showroom.
