Fake army man arrested

Police arrested a fake army member from Ambagh area of Gazipur city on Sunday. The arrestee was Abdul Awal Khan, 35, hailing from Fuljhari village of Barguna district. Mobarak Hossain, in-charge of Konabari police outpost, said Awal along with a woman had been living in the house of local Raju Ahmed for a long time introducing him as an army man. Locals suspected them and informed police. On information police arrested him on Sunday night.Police filed a complaint against Awal in this connection.

Man crushed under train

An unidentified man, aged around 35, was crushed under a train in Deshipara area in Gazipur city early Monday. Locals spotted the dismembered body of the man beside the Dhaka-Rajshahi rail line in the area and informed police. On information police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy, said Md Dadon Miah, sub-inspector at Joydebpur railway junction police outpost. The incident might have taken place sometime in the previous night.

Woman ‘commits suicide’

A woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room in Shahidpara Kabir Mistry Colony in Chandgaon area of Chittasgong city early yesterday. The deceased was Shahina Akter, 24, hailing from East Gatidanga in Satkania upazila and a worker of a garment factory in BSCIC industrial area. Police said the deceased’s family found her hanged from her room’s ceiling around 12:30AM and informed police.  On information police recovered the body and sent it to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Naik Jahangir Alam of CMCH police outpost.

RCC opens internet networking

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has opened internet structured networking (Broad Brand) and Wi-Fi both inside and outside of its own building aims at encouraging people’s involvement in information technology besides expediting its online civic services. The city corporation launched the modern communication system with the main thrust of bringing dynamism in its service- delivery process through replacing the existing manual activities into digital system in phases.

Anti-drug campaign begins

A human chain was formed in front of Narayanganj High School and College in the city as part of the nationwide month-long anti-drug campaign on Sunday.
An hour-long human chain was organised by Narayanganj District Narcotics Control Office. Deputy Commissioner Narayanganj Anisur Rahman Miah, Additional District Magistrate Sarwar Hossain, Acting Principal of Narayanganj School and College Komol Kanti Saha, Assistant Director of District Narcotic Control Office Biplob Kumar Modak and teachers, students, guardians and anti-drug organisations joined the programme.
