The two new government schools in the city failed to start its functioning on time as Barisal University authorities yet to vacant rooms of their temporary campus. Education ministry ordered to start the function of these schools at extension buildings of the Barisal Government Zilla School where Barisal University has been running their temporary campus. The schools are: Barisal Govt Kawnia High School and Barisal Govt Rupatoli High School.
The journey of the under construction Barisal Govt Kawnia High School and Barisal Govt Rupatoli High School was to start from January 2016 at the extension building of Barisal Govt Zilla School following the government order. Barisal Govt Zilla School authority handed over their extension building to the Barisal University (BU) to start educational activities in 2010. BU also had started its function on March, 2011 and started classes from February in 2012. By this time new buildings of BU started functioning from last year at Karnokathi area of the city. An official letter signed on December 9, 2015 by Md Muhibur Rahman, deputy secretary of education ministry, sent to deputy director, education department of Barisal to start function of the new two government schools. The letter said that seven new govt schools will be set up under the project in Barisal, Sylhet and Khulna city.
Zonal deputy director of directorate of secondary and higher education Dr Md Mustafizur Rahman said after getting the order from director general office they attached Papiya Jesmin, assistant headmaster of Barisal Govt. Zilla School as the acting headmaster of Barisal Govt Rupatoli High School and Sangkar Kumar Pal, school inspector of directorate of secondary and higher education as the headmaster of Barisal Govt. Kawnia High School. Other teachers also appointed for these schools. Ministry already sent order to the Barisal University to vacant their temporary campus from the extension part of the Govt Zilla School compound.
Sabina Yasmin, headmaster of Barisal Govt. Zilla School said that construction work of the buildings of these two new Govt schools are going on in full swing at Kawnia and Rupatoli area of the city. But to follow the order of the ministry we sanctioned our extension buildings to start the function of the two new schools and sent letter to the BU authority on December 27 to vacant the building. But BU authority yet to reply, she said. She further said that there is no alternative to start function of the two new Govt. schools here.
Acknowledging the facts VC of BU Prof Dr SM Emamul Haque said he received a letter of headmaster of Barisal Govt. Zilla School and talked with the ministry about the matter. He expressed hope to solve the problem immediately.
