Akhtaruzzaman Lablu, chief reporter of the daily Bhorer Kagoj, and Mahbub Alam Lablu, senior reporter of Independent Television, have been elected president and general secretary of Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) respectively for the next one year, reports UNB. They were elected in a direction election held yesterday. Akhtaruzzaman secured 111 votes while his rival candidate Esaraf Hossain Isa, a senior reporter of the Daily Sun, polled 85. Mahbub Alam Lablu bagged 103 votes defeating his nearest contestant Omar Faruk Al Hadi of the Daily Inqilab by 47 votes.
Besides, Mirza Mehedi Tomal of the Daily Bangladesh Pratidin was elected Vice-president getting 104 votes while his rival candidate Sabbir Mahmud got 85 votes.
Mamunur Rashid of the Daily Observer was elected organising secretary unopposed while SM Delwear Hossain as treasure unopposed.
The other office-bearers include joint secretary Mohammad Momin Hossain of BSS, office secretary Azizul Hakim, training and research secretary Momtaj Uddin, publicity and publishing secretary MM Badsha of SA Television, and cultural affairs secretary Jahangir Hossain Babu. Aminul Islam of the Daily Naya Diganta, Shahin Abdul Bari and Imdadul Haque Khan were elected executive members of the committee.
Out of 218 CRAB voters, 199 cast their votes in the polls to elect their leaders for the next one year.
The voting started at 9am at CRAB Samabai Samity office at Segunbagicha and continued till 4pm with an half an hour break.
