Fair polls to bring debacle for AL

Accusing the ruling party of carrying out propaganda in the name of election survey, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday said the ruling party will face a debacle in the December-30 municipal election if it is held fairly, reports UNB. Speaking at a programme of a group of journalists, she again claimed that her party candidates will get 80 percent votes as the voters are waiting to cast their ballots in favour of sheaf of paddy, the election symbol of BNP.
“Conducting any false election survey will be of no use. I may self know what are the findings of the survey. The true results suggest their (AL’s) debacle. But, they’re carrying out a false campaign through newspapers only to legitimise their corruption,” Khaleda told the programme held at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium. She further said, “BNP will win the election bagging 80 percent votes if it is held in a free and fair manner.”
The BNP chief also urged the voters to go to their respective polling stations to exercise their franchise in a festive mood on the voting day.
Khaleda said the ruling party has crafted many evil designs so that BNP cannot join the municipal polls. “They (govt) have made a blunder as they arrange the polls with election symbol thinking BNP may boycott it. Joining the polls, BNP has proved it’s a pro-election party and the party believes in fair and participatory elections.”
Voicing concern over the media reports that journalists will not be allowed to stay inside polling stations during the voting, she said the main objective of this step is clear. The journalists will be restricted to rig votes. Journalists must have access to polling stations.” The BNP chief urged journalists to present the real election scenario and reveal what will happen inside polling stations.
