Nine people were killed in separate road accidents yesterday, report agencies. In Sylhet, four people were killed as a truck hit a private car at Moglabazar in South Surma upazila early yesterday. The deceased were identified as Dhrubo Jyoti Das, 36, an official of Pubali Bank of Charkhai Branch in Bianibazar upazila, Adil Chowdhury, 34, Sanjib, 30, and Prokriti, 32, residents of Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district. Witnesses said the speeding truck hit the private car from behind while the car, carrying passengers, was going to Sylhet from Dhaka at about 5:00 am, leaving Dhrubo and Adil dead on the spot and two others injured. Sanjib and Prokriti died on way to hospital. Moglabazar police camp in-charge Khairul Bahar confirmed the accident.
In Gaibandha, three people, including a child and two women, were killed when a truck rammed a van at Jundhaho in Polashbari upazila on Dhaka-Rangpur highway.
The deceased could not be identified immediately. OC of Polashbari police Mojibur Rahman said the accident took place when a wood-laden Dhaka-bound truck hit a passenger van at noon, leaving the child and two women dead on the spot and two others injured.
In Gazipur, Babu, 36, was killed and five others were injured when a microbus
collided head-on with a sand-laden truck from opposite direction at 5 am on
Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Baniarchalai area.
In Laxmipur, Mosarraf Hussein Rubel, 22, was killed and nine others were injured when a bus hit a brick-laden tractor at Kazirkhil area in Ramganj upazila yesterday morning.
