Condusive atmosphere 
for polls sought

Leaders of Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikyo Parishad yesterday urged the Election Commission (EC) to ensure congenial atmosphere for the people of all faiths, reports BSS. EC must stop use of religious sentiment and communalism during the municipality election campaigns, Advocate Rana Das Gupta, general secretary of the Oikyo Parishad, told a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) here. Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikyo Parishad organised the press conference on the upcoming pourashabha election. Gupta said the Oikyo Parishad will extend its support to the candidates who will uphold the spirit of the War of Liberation and protect the rights of minorities. He called upon the voters, who belong to religious and ethnic minorities, to ensure their active participation during the municipal polls. Other senior leaders of the Oikyo Parishad-- Kajol Debnath, Basudev Dhar, Milon Kanti Dutta and Nirmol Rajario, among others, were present at the press conference.
