Militancy is reemerging in Bangladesh, said Benazir Ahmed, Director General of Rapid Action Battallion (RAB) on Monday during a visit to Kantanagar village in Kaharol upazila of Dinajpur.
He was speaking at meeting titled ‘Preventing crimes’ with Mir Khairul Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Dinajpur, in the chair. Monoranjanshil Gopal, lawmaker of Dinajpur-1 constituency, Humayun Kabir DIG of Rangpur Rage police, senior RAB and police officials of Dinajpur and Rangpur were also present.
“Bangladesh is a country of peace; but a tiny group of people in the name of a sacred duty is trying to destabilise the country by attacking temples, mosques and foreigners in Bangladesh. We saw the activities of that group in the country 10 years ago; but now it is trying to return again”, said Benazir Ahmed.  He has sought cooperation from all communities to fight against the militancy.
The DG of RAB in his speech thanked the people of Kaharol for apprehending two people involved in the attack on Iskcon temple in the upazila on December 10.
“I am here to convoy my gratitude to you, because you have proved your worth as responsible citizens,” said the DG. He also urged the people to keep watch on their children as the militant gang might entice them into their fold.
‘Killing people is not supported in any religion,’ he said urging the militant to shun the path of killing people in the name of militancy.
He urged the militant operatives in Bangladesh to surrender before the law enforcement agencies. Otherwise, he said, the law enforcing members will get them and put on trial.
Monoranjanshil Gopal, MP, also thanked the people of Kaharol for their efforts in apprehending the attackers. The arrested people later confessed to their involvement of gun attack on Piero Parolari, an Italian, in Dinajpur on November 18. Earlier, the DG of RAB along with others officials visited the Kantajiu temple.
