Key share price indices at the country’s twin bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - returned to positive on Monday amid Bangladesh Bank’s rule on bank’s capital market exposure.
The DSE key index, DSEX gained 67.34 points or 1.49 percent to close at 4578.88 on the day. Of the 320 issues traded, 247 gained, 51 declined and 22 remained unchanged.
Shares worth Tk 488.87 crore changed hands at the DSE on Monday as against Tk 347.91 crore on Sunday.
Analysing the day’s stock market, LankaBangla Securities said, “Dhaka stocks leaped up today fueled by relaxation of central bank’s rule on bank’s capital market exposure. After two weeks long of shrinking, index finally saw a pick up today following the release of news on this amendment that will remove almost Tk 56 billion from the country’
s banks’ capital market exposure.”
Referring Bangladesh bank, the leading stockbroker also said, “Currently the country’s bank sector has almost Tk 60 billion in excess exposure. From January, banks' capital given to their stock market subsidiaries will not be counted as stock market exposure.”
“Shares of all the major sectors jumped as investors geared up the buying interest on hope of eased institutional sell pressure in market”, LankaBangla added.
Phoenix Finance and Investments topped the gainer’s list at Dhaka bourse while other companies were Green Delta Insurance, Baraka Power, Meghna Life Insurance, Islamic Finance & Investment, National Housing Finance & Investment, Apex Spinning & Knitting Mills, Regent Textile Mills, GSP Finance Company and KDS Accessories.
The top five turnover leaders at the DSE were Quasem Drycells, Beximco Pharma, Square Pharmaceuticals, KDS Accessories and BSRM Steel.
Top five losers at the DSE were Aziz Pipes, Libra Infusions, Progressive Life Insurance, Monno Ceramic and BD Autocars.
The key index at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), CASPI advanced 204.98 points to reach 13979.79 at close on Monday. Of the 237 issues traded, 188 advanced, 33 suffered loss and 16 remained unchanged.
The value of the traded issues at the port city bourse was Tk 21.89 crore on the day.unb
