Electioneering gains momentum in dists

Campaign for municipality election has gained momentum in districts with the December 30 voting day approaching. In Jhenidah, candidates seeking to contest for mayoral posts in municipal election have geared up campaign.
They will, for the first time, run for election with party symbols. Now, there are 14 mayor aspirants, 136 councillor candidates and 45 candidates for women reserved seats after the withdrawal of nomination papers. The election is scheduled to be held on December 30. The candidates backing from ruling Awami League (AL) and BNP are holding people-to-people contact, discussion meetings and distributing leaflets in their respective areas to attract the attention of voters.
In Chapainawabgnaj, candidates along with their supporters are moving from door to door to woo voters. A quadrangular contest is likely to take place in the polls here as two of the heavyweight candidates have changed their position in politics. Of them, former mayor and Jamaat leader Ataur Rahman has been nominated from BNP.
On the other hand, existing mayor Maolana Abdul Matin, who was elected mayor from BNP, is contesting the polls as independent candidate. Again, Jamaat has a strong hold in the municipal area and as a whole a quadrangular fight is likely to take place. In Patuakhali, the election campaign in Kuakata municipality is gaining momentum. Candidates have been nominated by BNP, AL, JP (E) and NPP to contest for the mayoral post in the newly formed Kuakata municipality. Mayor and councillor candidates are meeting the voters from morning to until mid-night.
They are also seeking vote through posters, stickers and handbills. Complaints have been lodged with the election commission against AL nominated candidate for violation of
code of conduct by candidates, backed by BNP and JP.
In Tangail, mayoral candidates in Tangail municipality on Saturday faced the voters and students at a function held at central Shaheed Minar premises on Saturday. The candidates focused their future plan on the development of municipality on the occasion.
Jamilur Rahman said if he is voted to mayoral post he will make Tangail municipality free from drug, terrorism,  extortion and establish a student-friendly town. He assured the students of providing all facilities of sports and games. Abdul Kader, another candidate, assured the voters of making an ideal municipality and establish residential halls for the students. Hasnat Al-Amin said he will establish drug-free town and create civic facilities for the town dwellers  In Narsingdi, the campaign for polls has gained momentum. Narsingdi and Madhabdi municipalities now wear a festive look as colourful posters, placards and banners are all around to attract voters.
The contesting candidates have been moving from door to door round the clock and requesting the voters to cast voters in their favour. A triangular fight will  be held between ruling AL, BNP and AL rival  candidates in Sadar, voters said.
