Sacrifice of martyred intellectuals recalled

The Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed in the cities in a befitting manner yesterday paying rich tribute to the martyrs together with conveying deep sympathy to members of the bereaved families. On this day in 1971 the intellectuals of Dhaka University and Dhaka city were killed by the Pak occupation forces sensing their inevitable defeat in the war of liberation for Bangladesh. In Barisal, different socio-cultural-political organisations, including district administration, Barisal metropolitan and district police, Commanders’ Forum Mutijuddha-71, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, Barisal Sangskritik Sangathan Samanya Parishad, Barisal University held various discussions in the city after paying tribute to the war heroes.
Barisal unit of Awami League, BNP,   Jatiya Party, Workers Party, CPB and their front organizations separately held discussions at their offices and paid tribute at the martyr’s monument on this occasion. BSS adds from Chittagong: Different political parties, socio-cultural and professional organisations  arranged discussion meetings, cultural functions and Milad Mahfils to mark  the day and paid rich tributes to the country's golden son and daughters who  were killed at the fag end of the War of Liberation in 1971.
Speakers at discussion meetings organized on this occasion said local  collaborators of the Pakistani forces under the banners of Al-Badrs, Al-  Shams and Razakars brutally killed the think-tanks of the Bengali nation in a  planned manner to cripple the newborn nation intellectually sensing their  sure defeat in the nine-month long bloody war.
BSS adds from Rangpur:  The defeated anti-liberation forces killed intellectuals of the soil after conducting nine-month long genocides as a part of their deep-rooted conspiracy to make the nation talent-less at dawn of the independence in 1971. The views were expressed at separate discussions organised by different political parties, socio-cultural and professional organisations and educational institutions here today in observance of the Martyred Intellectuals' Day-2015 in the city. Observance of the day began through placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar and monuments of the martyrs, hoisting of black flags and national flag at half-mast atop all public and private buildings in the early morning.
The programmes also included wearing black badges, bringing out mourning procession, observance of one-minute silence and offering special prayers seeking divine blessings for departed souls of the martyred intellectuals. Awami League (AL) and its associate organisations, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Workers Parry, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Sector Commanders Forum, Rangpur Sahittya- Sangskritik Parisat, Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote, Rangapur Sahittya Parisat, Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi, Shilpokola Academy, Begum Rokeya University, Carmichael College, Rangpur Medical College and other organisations and institutions chalked out similar programmes to observe the day.
BSS adds from Rajshahi: Rajshahi people pay rich tributes to martyred intellectuals Various political, socio-cultural and volunteer organisations side by side with educational institutions including Rajshahi University and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day here yesterday. Main demand ofyesterday's discussion meetings and other programmes was to complete the trial process of the war-criminals and collaborators and execution of all other convicts awarded death sentences like Kader Mollah, Kamaruzzaman, Ali Ahsan Md Mujahid and Salauddin Kader Chowdhury. In observance of the day, various programmes were chalked out which included placing floral wreaths at Shaheed Minar, photo exhibition, public gathering.
