‘Tringsha Shatabdee’ to be staged at BSA today

To pay tribute to the martyred intellectuals who have always been considered to be the country’s golden sons for giving their lives for the freedom of the countrymen on December 14 in 1971, popular theatre troupe Swapnadal will stage its anti-war production titled ‘Tringsha Shatabdee’ today evening at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city. The play is adapted and directed by Zahid Repon. The story is based on the destruction of the two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which lead to the surrender of Japan and was meant to be the end of the war to end all wars, however, the world has seen many more wars since. The production incorporates the terrible experiences of wars on people, including the Liberation War of Bangladesh, as well as the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
And through a replicated military exercise, the narrator has depicted the nuclear activities by the global superpowers.
During a transformation, the narrator of the play becomes a character, namely Suman, who wants the trial of war criminals acted against the country’s Liberation War during 1971. To note, Swapnadal staged three special shows of ‘Tringsha Shatabdee’ at a drama festival titled ‘A Season of Bangla Drama 2015’ in London, arranged by Tower Hamlets of England at Brady Arts Centre on November 6 and 7. Besides, the play participated in India’s National Theatre Festival titled ‘17th Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2015’, which was organised by National School of Drama (NSD) and funded by Ministry of Culture (India) on February 2 this year.
