Child’s body found in Savar

Police recovered the decomposed body of a minor child from a waterbody at East Bank Town on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar municipality area here yesterday. Police said local people found the body of the unidentified child, aged about four years, under hyacinth in the waterbody while fishing and informed the matter to police at noon. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The body bore several injury marks, said police. However, police suspected that miscreants might have killed him and dumped the body here. A case was filed with Savar Model Police Station in this connection.

N’ganj Victory Day programme

The district administration in co-operation with socio-cultural organisations have taken up four days programmes to observe 44th victory day this year with joy and jubilation beginning from yesterday. The programmes include essay writing competition on Bangabandhu and Independence, children painting competition, lighting candles on the occasion of martyred intellectual day at Chashara Shaheed Minar and shooting competition at Narayanganj Rifle Club. The main programmes of victory day December 16 will be heralded one minute past 12 midnight with 31 gun salute, wreaths will be placed on the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with the martyred freedom fighters at Chashara victory monument at 6am. A youth and juvenile rally will be held at Osmany stadium at 9.00 am.

BDMC office- bearers

Professor Dr Mohammad Shahidullah and Prof Dr ABM Maqsoodul Alam were elected president and vice-president respectively of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BDMC) for the next three years. The seven-member executive body of BDMC was elected in the annual general meeting (AGM) of the organisation at its central office at Bijaynagar in the capital on Saturday. Prof Dr M Iqbal Arsalan, Prof Dr Md Moniruzzaman Bhuiyan, Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed, Prof Dr. Md Ismail Khan and Dr Jamal Uddin Chowdhury were elected members of the executive body. Prof. Shahidullah, chairman of Department Neonatology of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) did his MBBS degree from Mymensingh Medical College while Prof. Maqsoodul, Principal Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College (ShSMC) obtained his MBBS from Chittagong Medical College.

CRAB website re-launched

The website of Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) "crab-bd.com" was re-launched at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium at Segun Bacgicha in the capital yesterday. Earlier, the website was inaugurated in 2008. DRU president Jamal Uddin and general secretary Raju Ahmed inaugurated the website re-launching programme by cutting a cake at about 11:30 am. Senior journalists former general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Saban Mahmud and Shahnewaz Dulal, CRAB president Isaraf Hossain Esa, general secretary Quamruzzaman Khan, former CRAB general secretary Abu Saleh Akon, CRAB vice-president Muhammad Jahangir Alam and treasurer Md Sahidul Islam Rana, among others, were present on the occasion.
