Human chain for releas of victim’s brother
At least two hundred people of Rangunia Upazila of Chittagong District formed a human chain in front of Chittagong Press Club (CPC) in the city yesterday demanding immediate release of Tasfiq Uddin Sabur a teenage boy who was sent to jail by police in a ‘fabricated’ case accusing him of violating his younger sister. A rally was also held under the banner of Ranguniabasi. The people came from Rangunia Upazila took the street in Zamal Khan area at around 11am. Speakers at the rally said police sent Sabur to jail in false case, while releasing the main culprit Shah Alam. Without any delay, they demanded the releasing of Sabur. The incident came into light after The Independent published a report on May 23 tiled on “Cops ‘label’ teenage boy as sister’s violator” and a lawyer lodged a writ petition with High Court on May 25 with the report. The HC ordered to treat The Independent report as First Information Report (FIR) and to arrest the main culprit Shah Alam. However, Police arrested Shah Alam but victim’s brother Sabur yet to get bail.
