Nasim urges doctors to ensure medical services
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday instructed doctors to ensure healthcare services at the evening round in the government hospitals, reports BSS. “The government’s aim is to ensure medical treatment facilities to the poor. Evening round has not yet been ensured in government hospitals. I want to ensure evening round in government hospitals. Today’s meeting has been convened to ensure the same,” the minister told reporters on his way to attending an emergency meeting at the Conference Room of the Health Ministry in the National Secretariat in the city.
Mohammad Nasim said, “Any slackness in regard to discharging of duties can’t be accepted. Action would be taken against any doctor if it is proved that he/she has shown negligence in performing his duties of attending the patients”. Meantime, he said action had already been taken against some doctors for negligence to their duties in accordance with the report of the monitoring team. In reply to a question on allocation for the Health sector in the proposed national budget, the minister said, “The budget is meant for ensuring healthcare facilities. If the allocation in the sector is not enhanced, the scope for extending healthcare services in the public sector would be hampered. Public and private entrepreneurs should come forward and work together for rendering healthcare services. Those who established hospitals in private sector should extend services at a low cost to the patients.” Mohammad Nasim said, “Healthcare services have been hampered in public hospitals due to extra rush of relatives of the patients. An alternative to it should have to be traced out.” The minister told reporters that initiative has already been taken to expand the specialised units in different district hospitals. State Minister for Health Zahid Malek, health secretary Syed Manjurul Islam, director general of the Health Directorate Prof Dr Deen Md Nurul Huq and directors of government hospitals in Dhaka, directors of specialised hospitals and principals of government medical colleges and divisional directors of Health Division attended the meeting.
