The High Court yesterday granted an interim bail to Barrister AKM Fakhrul Islam, a lawyer for executed war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, in the case for leaking a draft of the verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), reports BSS. A High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain allowed Fakhrul bail for one year after hearing a plea filed in this regard. Fakhrul’s lawyer advocate Joynul Abedin said, now there is no bar in releasing the accused from the jail. Deputy attorney general Sheikh AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir, who opposed the bail plea, however, said they will appeal against the order. AKM Nasiruddin Mahmud, then Registrar of the ICT, filed a general diary with Shahbagh Police Station on October 2, 2013, over the leaking of a part of draft verdict in Salauddin Quader Chowdhury’s case. On October 4, 2013, DB inspector Fazlur Rahman filed a case with the same police station in this regard. On August 28, 2014, DB filed charge sheet against seven including Salauddin’s wife Farhat Quader Chowdhury, son Hummam Quader Chowdhury and Fakhrul.
