RCC to rehabilitate its internal migrated people

RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) is going to implement a project of Taka 82.30 crore for rehabilitation of its internal migrated people alongside improving their living and livelihood condition, RCC sources here said, reports BSS. The scheme titled "Urban Management of Internal Migration due to Climate Change" will work for development of socio-economic condition of the ultra poor and paupers who have been displaced from their homesteads and taken shelter at city streets and suburbs by the impact of climate change. German Development Corporation (GIZ) will financially support the three-year project. According to the officials concerned, RCC authority held a meeting with a delegation of GIZ Sunday afternoon devising ways and means on how to implement the programme effectively. On behalf of RCC, Mayor-in-Charge Nizam-Ul Azim, Secretary Syeda Zebin Nissa Sultana, Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque and Chief Revenue Officer Mahabubur Rahman took part in the discussion. Chief Adviser Hans-Joachim Hermann, Team Leader UIF Neupert, Adviser Akhtaruzzaman, Regional Coordinator of RIEUD Enamul Haque and its Adviser Shobnom attended the meeting on behalf of GIZ. Under this project, short and long term job oriented training and health care facilities will be offered to the ultra poor and poor class of people and infrastructure will be built in city areas for providing shelter of those people.
There will be a positive socio-economic change of ultra poor and poor section of the people of the city under this project, informed RCC Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque. He said around 4,000 to 5,000 ultra-poor and poor section of people will directly be benefited from the project. Specially the people who have been displaced and turned homeless due to impact of climate change and took shelter in city slums and streets will be rehabilitated in three phases. Survey of the project has already been started from early this year and is on its final stage. He hoped, the implementation of the programme will continue until 2017.
