‘Robber’ killed in Ctg  ‘gunfight’

An alleged robber was killed and six people, including two policemen, were injured in a ‘gunfight’ between police and robbers at East Gunagori in Banskhali upazila of Chittagong district early yesterday. Identity of the deceased could not be known.  No one came to claim the body as of 5:20pm, said AKM Imran Bhuiyan, assistant superintendent of police (Satkania circle). Four of the injured, identified as Abdul Karim,35, Pakhi Akhter, 25, Mohammad Khaled, 25, Shaheda Akhter, 28, all locals, were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Pankaj Barua, assistant sub-inspector of CMCH police outpost. The injured policemen were Sub-inspector Ashraf and constable Anwar.
They were given first aid at a local hospital, said Swapan Kumar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Banshkhali Police Station. “A gang of robbers entered the house of one Belal Master in East Gunagori area around 1:30am breaking the door. Hearing  scream of the family members local people informed the police. Police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the house,” said the OC. Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers who retaliated with firing which triggered a gunfight. A robber was caught in the line of fire and died.  Six people, including two members of police, were injured. Police managed to arrest a robber while his other associates managed to flee. The arrestee was identified as Md Bashar, 28.
