6 killed in road mishaps
Six people were killed in separate road accidents in Chapainawabganj and Bagerhat yesterday. Our Chapainawabganj correspondent says: Three people were killed as a truck crashed into a motorbike carrying them at Kendul in sadar upazila yesterday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Faruk, 30, Nayan, 42, of Kendul village and Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui, 30, of Chuniapara village under Tanore upazila of Rajshahi district. Sub-inspector of sadar police station Jahangir Alam said the accident took place at around 12-30 pm when the truck hit the motorcycle on Amnura-Godagari road from opposite direction, leaving Nur-e-Alam and Faruk dead on the spot and Nayan critically injured. Nayan was rushed to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead. The truck also overturned beside the road as its driver lost control over the steering. The driver managed to flee away.
Our correspondent from Bagerhat reports: Three people were killed when a Khulna-bound coach of Rupasi Paribahan hit an engine-run rickshaw van and a motorcycle in Biswa Road intersection in Fakirhat upazila yesterday morning. The deceased were Monalisa Aktar, 17, an intermediate student of Fakirhat Fazilatun-Nisa Girls’ College, Obaidul Haq Khalifa of Chitalmari upazila and Nasir Uddin, a trader and an inhabitant of Attaki village in Fakirhat Upazila. Police said the accident took place at about 10-30 am when the driver of the coach lost control over the steering and smashed into a van rickshaw and a motorcycle from behind. Monalisa, who was on the van, killed on the spot while Obaidul Haq and motorcyclist Nasir Uddin sustained injuries. Obaidul succumbed to his injuries on his way to thehospital while Nasir died in a hospital in Khulna.
