AIUB holds blood donation camp
A voluntary blood donation camp was organised by the Department of Mathematics with the support of AIUB Shomoy Club of American International University- Bangladesh (AIUB) recently on the university campus, says a press release. The programme initiated by Red Crescent Society and Old Rajshahi Cadet Association (ORCA). Vice-chancellor of AIUB, Dr Carmen Zita Lamagna inaugurated the blood donation programme. Beside representatives from both organisations, faculty members, students were present at the ceremony.  Faculty members, students and officials of the university enthusiastically donated blood where total 366 bags were collected for the support of Emergency serious patient.

4th Eastern University Math Olympiad Dec 18

Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Eastern University (EU), Dhaka will organise the 4th Eastern University Math Olympiad (EUMO) on December 18 on the premises of the university, says a press release. Renowned writer Prof Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, head of the Dept of EEE, Sahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST); Prof Dr M Kaykobad, Dept of CSE, BUET and a good number of scientists, technologists and researchers from different arena will be attending the event. The aim of the Math Olympiad is to create the opportunity for our young talented students in the country to shine and show their mathematical and analytical talents and to create a national awareness for the development of math skills. We are inviting all the talented students studying in different public and private colleges and interested in math to participate in the Olympiad.
The Olympiad will be conducted under the supervision of Dr Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Chairperson, Dept. of CSE, EU. All the concerned students are encouraged to participate in the competition. Prize giving ceremony held at JU

The annual prize-giving ceremony of Sheikh Hasina Hall of Jahangirnagar University (JU) was held at the common room of the hall on the campus on Friday. JU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam addressed the function as the chief guest while Pro-VC Professor DrAbul Hossain addressed it as the special guest. Prof Farzana said the sports teach the people discipline and endurance and keep their body and mind healthy. Presided over by provost of the hall Professor Dr Farid Ahmed, Convener of the Internal Sports Management Committee of the hall KM Akkach Ali addressed the function, among others. Later, a cultural function was also held at the same venue with the participation of residential students.

38 DU teachers given farewell
Dhaka University gave farewell to 38 teachers who retired from different departments and institutes in 2015-16 academic sessions. Dhaka University Teachers Association organised the farewell ceremony at Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of the university. Addressing as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique said “You (teachers) gave knowledge to students at the university for a long time. As per the rule of the profession, you are going to retirement but the university will have relations with you always.”
“There is no other asset as like as relations. Love is the main strength of relations. We have to take ahead the country and the society by establishing such relations, practicing of it and through its continuation” he added.
Professor AFM Yusuf Haider, Professor AKM Monwar Uddin Ahmad, Professor Khondkar Sidddique-e-Rabbani, Professor Nazma Begum, Professor Narayan Chandra Biswas, Professor Nim Chandra Bhoumik and Professor Dilruba Huq, among others of the outgoing teachers, addressed the function.

Workshop on good governance at SUST
A day-long workshop on ‘Good Governance: Office and Financial Management’ was held on Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus yesterday. The workshop was organised by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the University around 10am at the seminar room of  statistics department. University’s Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Aminul Haque Bhuyan inaugurated the  programme. Among others, University’s treasurer Prof Dr Elias Uddin Biswas, director of  IQAC prof  Dr Abdul Awal Biswas, Asistant director Prof Asraful Alam were present at the workshop. Officers from different department of the university including registrar and chief of the office were participated in the workshop.
