Aspirants submit nomination papers in districts

Aspirants seeking to contest in the December 30 municipal polls in districts submitted nomination papers to election returning officers on Thursday, the last day.
In Kurigram, 19 people aspiring to contest for mayoral posts as party candidates in three municipalities of Kurigram district submitted their nomination papers to the Returning Officer yesterday. Some 146 vying for councilors and 46 for female reserved seats also submited their nomination papers yesterday. The mayoral aspirants included five rebel candidates -- four from AL and one BNP.
The mayoral candidates are five in Kurigram -- sitting mayor and BNP candidate Nur Islam Nuru, AL candidate Abdul Zalil, AL rebels Kaziul Islam and Saidul Hasan Dulal, Islami Shasantantra Andolan candidate Belal Hossain; eight in Ulipur -- running Mayor and AL candidate Abdul Hamid, AL rebels candidate Shazedul Islam and Abu Sayed Sarkar, BNP candidate Tarique Abu Ala Chawdhury, BNP rebel candidate Abdur Razzak, Jatiya Party (Ershad) candidate Shafiqul Islam Dara, JP (Manju) candidate Mozammel Haque Manik and Islami Shasantra Andolan candidate Jahangir Alom; and six in Nageswari -- running Mayor and Jatiya Party (Ershad) candidate Abdur Rahman Mia, AL candidate Mohammad Hossain Faku, BNP candidate Adom Ali, Islami Shasantantra Andolan candidate Rafiqul Islam and independents Abdul Ohab and Abdul Aziz.
In Manikganj, a total of ten candidates seeking to participate in election to two municipalities in Manikganj district submitted nomination papers for the post of mayor yesterday.
 The candidates along with the local leaders and activists started arriving at the concerned returning offices in Manikganj.Four candidates submitted their nomination papers for the post of Manikganj municipality mayor. They are AL nominated incumbent Mayor Romjan Ali and two others from AL and affiliated bodies such as Secretary of district AL Gazi Kamrul Huda Salim and President of district Sramik League Babul Sarker as independent candidates.  Former Ward Commissioner and Vice-president of district BNP Nasir Uddin Ahmed Jadu filed his nomination paper as lone BNP nominated candidate for the post.Fourteen candidates submitted their nomination papers for the three women reserved seats 84 submitted for nine councilor posts.
Meanwhile, 6 candidates submitted their nomination papers for the post of Mayor in Singair municipality. They are AL nominated Abu Naim Mohammed Basher, BNP nominated incumbent Mayor Khorshed Alam Joy,   Mowlana Ashraf Ali of Bangladesh Khelafot Andholon and independent candidates -- Tofazzol Hossain and Hafiz Uddin.
Former Mayor Mir Mohammed Shajahan submitted his nomination paper for the post of Mayor as AL rival candidate.
In Bhola, a total of 16 people, representing Awami League, BNP and political parties, submitted nomination papers for three mayoral posts and 77 for 36 councilor posts in three municipalities in Bhola district yesterday.
 Sources said that three mayoral candidates both Awami league, B.N.P and Independent and one from Islami Shasantantra Andol were file nomination paper in  Election to Bhola sadar, Daulat Khan and Borhan Uddin municipalities will he held on December 30.
