A teacher of Rajshahi University (RU) was arrested last night on charge of assaulting police during a BNP-led 20-Party alliance agitation in the city early this year, reports BSS. A team from Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police picked up Dr Amirul Islam, associate professor of the Department of Islamic History and Culture, from Binodpur Bazar area, under Motihar Police Station at around 8.30 pm. Shushanta Chandra Roy, assistant commissioner of DB, told local newsmen that Amirul is accused in a case over attack on police by Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir during the January agitations. The detained teacher was interrogated at Motihar Police Station, the police officer added.
