Alliance Française de Dhaka is organising a musical programme titled ‘An Evening with Ghazal’ with Ghazal singer Manzurul Islam Khan today at the premises of Alliance Française, Dhanmondi in the city. Eminent journalist and columnist Kamal Lohani will attend the programme as chief guest. A celebrated classical singer Manzurul Islam Khan is a new Ghazal sensation of Bangladesh has been singing since 1982. He started his singing journey from Chhayanat and also completed advanced courses in classical music, Master in Music from Bombay University, India. He rendered a number of ghazals including some bangla songs of JagjitJi – all to the utter perfection that any second singer could dare to try. It was as if Jagjit Ji himself was rendering these songs. The noted Indian Musician Prodip Ghosh very rightly conferred him the title ‘Banglar Jagjit’. He received further training from Ustad Azad Rahman, Ustad Sanjib Dey, Aminul Haque, Ustad Amjad Rahman in Bangladesh and Ustad Usman Khan, Ustad Sanjoy Chawkbarty in India. The singer is better known as an avid follower of Ghazal legend Jagjit Singh. He also got his Talim from Jagjit Singh for a short time.
Manzurul Islam Khan has been performing solos at some selected places of Bangladesh and India since 1994, enthralling and captivating the audience to the heights of spiritual yearnings and ecstasy. He aspires to continue singing as long as he can and contribute to the world of Bangla version of ghazals bringing in a shift in its ‘gaayaki’ (rendition) altogether. Despite the fact that Ghazals have passed many evolutionary stages through many maestros in the field, it was usually confined to the niche of audiences of the society, who understood the technicalities of classical singing and the finer forms of Urdu poetry. Manzurul Isalm Khan believes that he is able to contribute in perceiving form where the lyrical Ghazal can emerge with a retable profoundness. Where: AFD, 26 Mirpur Road, Dhanmondi
