Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain yesterday said a 130-storey ‘icon and smart green city’ would be built on 60 acres of land in Purbachal new town project, reports BSS. “A US team has already visited the spot and sought 60 acres of land to make the icon city,” he said speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day international exhibition of power, solar and real estate at Bashundhara International Convention Centre in the city. The minister said the government will also construct 60,000 apartments in Purbachal. About 60 percent of the development work of Purbachal project has already been done, he said and hoped that the project will be completed by December 2017.
“We will construct apartments for the people at very low costs. We are making arrangements so that all get apartments,” he added. Referring to development activities of the government, the minister said the government has undertaken three big projects - Uttara, Hatirjheel and Purbachal. The government is constructing 15,000 apartments in Uttara 3rd phase and 60,000 apartments in Purbachal, he said adding that the construction of apartments in Uttara 3rd phase will be completed on December 16 in 2016. The housing and public works minister said the government will build a green city in Mirpur. Prime Minister’s Adviser on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury attended the function as special guest. Spanish Ambassador Edward De Leiglesia Del Rosal, FBCCI First Vice-president M Shafiul Islam, Bangladesh Power Development Board Member Engineer ATM Zahirul Islam Majumder and Asia Pacific Group Managing Director Meherun N Islam also spoke on the occasion. Entrepreneurs from 10 countries, including Bangladesh are taking part in the three-day international exhibition of power, solar and real estate. Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said the government is exploring the possibilities to sign three more agreements with Malaysia.
