Sale of winter clothes gains momentum

Sale of warm clothes is gradually gaining momentum with the advent winter in Jhenidah. People are crowding shopping malls and vendors on footpaths for buying winter clothes.  
Temperature has now fallen to 18 degrees to 22 degrees Celsius from 38 degrees to 42 degrees Celsius three weeks ago in Jhenidah.
 Over 2,000 stalls and sale points of various types of clothes are seen at Khalishpur bazaar, Polianpur and Voiroba bazaars in Moheshpur upazila, Nimtala, Hat Chadni and Barobazaar in Kaliganj upazila, Elangi bazaar in Kotchandpur upazila, Abaipur, Vatoi and Sheikhpara bazaar in Shailkupa upazila, Shakharidoho bazaar, Chulkanir bazaar in Harinakundo upazila, Hatgopalpur, Goalpara, Modhupur, Dakbangla, Goalpara, Arappur, Hamdoho, main bus terminal, post office premises, Chuadanga bus stand and KC college premises in Jhenidah Sadar upazila in the district.
Samsul Islam, a winter clothe vendor at Shamanta bazaar in Moheshpur upazila said, “Our business is going well and we expect the sale to gain momentum in coming days when demand for winter clothes will reach its peak”. Islam said he made made a profit of over Tk1,00,000 by investing Tk 3,00,000 last year.
Ali Kadam, a second-hand clothe businessman in Jhenidah town, said low income people are coming to roadside shops and hawkers market to buy warm clothes, like sweater, jacket, blanket, muffler, sport shirt, trouser, coat, blazer and handgloves. He said, “Our sales have doubled and we expect that in the days ahead these will go up further.”
Kamal Mia, another businessman, said over 2,000 temporary shops have been installed for selling warm clothes this winter in Jhenidah district.
