Fertiliser supply and stock in warehouses are enough to meet its demand for the current season in Lalmonirhat district.
With the beginning of Rabi season the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has started distributing fertiliser among the farmers in the north and it is ready to provide all out support to them.
Sources at the DAE said there is large quantity of various types of fertiliser stored in the Mohendro Nagor warehouse to the demand for the season. The stock constitutes 22,460 tonnes of urea, 950t TSP (triple super phosphate), 2730t MOP (muriate of potash) and 945t DAP (dia ammonium of phosphate) fertilizers.
But large quantity of fertilizer has been kept in open as the capacity of the warehouse is only 12,000 tonnes.
The sources said the DAE allocates fertiliser more than its demand every year.
There are 51 BCIC and 73 BADC dealers in the five upazilas of the district. The district Fertiliser and Seed Monitoring Committee monitors and sanctions fertilisers to the dealers through the DAE. Only BCIC dealers get all kinds of fertilizers, but BADC dealers get only non-urea fertiliser.
Currently, 2,210t urea, 740t TSP, 790t MOP and 820t DAP are with the field level dealers for supply during the month of November.
The DAE sources said for the current financial year (2015-16) it has sanctioned 38,000t of urea, 9,600t of TSP, 8,000t of DAP, 8,500t of MOP, 500t of NPKS, 2,700t of gypsum,1,000t of Zinc Sulphate and 2,200t of Magnesium Sulphate for five upazilas of the district.
Urea fertiliser is being sold at Tk 800, TSP at Tk 1,100 MOP at Tk 750 and DAP at Tk 1,250 in the local market; but currently in many areas it is being sold at lower rate compared to government price as the demand of fertilisers is low.
Farmers are now busy harvesting paddy and preparing for the next crops like potato and vegetables.
Forhad Alam, a dealer of BADC, said there is no crisis of fertiliser at present, rather a huge quantity of non-urea and urea is available.
Deputy Director of Lalmonirhat DAE Safayet Hosen said there is a huge stock of all kinds of fertilisers. There is no crisis of fertiliser in Lalmonirhat and the distribution at field level is smooth.
